EYMET v. PRESIDENT'S XI, 8 AUGUST. TOSS WON BY EYMET
There was only pride to play for on the last day in a
dead rubber. The match was reduced to 35 overs as time was
lost recruiting players for the President's who had lost
several players. Frantic phoning from President Bond, David
Horlock, and Duncan Clarke successfully raised a full complement
containing 'old boys' Steven Wade, Tom Lewis and Kelvin
Sutherland (Duncan Clarke being injured). Eymet stand-in
captain David twiddled the order and sent in Stuart Bagnall
to open with Simon Palmer. At last Eymet hit the ground
running. Given the previous two games, our openers started
watchfully but then flowered. The runs flowed. As the overs
ticked by they then selflessly attacked everything. They
both fell in succession having added 164 in 28 overs. Nigel
Jones, Josh Smith, and David then came in for the hack,
adding 71 in the last 7 overs. Josh impressed with two huge
hits and David played a classy cameo of 32. Veteran Tom
Lewis showed his old cunning to take 4 wickets and had several
chances dropped.
Finally our bowlers had something decent to bowl at. Chris
Farrell completed a fine week registering figures of 1 for
1 off 5 overs. We tied back a rather reserved President's
line-up, Steven Wade being the exception with an attacking
32. Kelvin Sutherland perhaps held himself back too long
given the task facing his side. Eymet new boy Simon Napier-Munns
wobbled the ball around a bit to wipe out their middle-order.
Notable also was 14-year-old Jacob Masters who bowled with
no fear and well deserved his 3 wickets.
Eymet pride was partially restored but we were all bitterly
disappointed not to have been more competitive at the beginning
of the festival.
RESULT: EYMET 235 for 5 off 35 (S.Bagnall 86, S.Palmer

PRESIDENT'S XI 144 for 8 off 35 ( J.Smith 35, S.Wade 32,S.Napier
