EYMET-BDX 22/4 IN BULLETIN 9/5
Uncharacteristically, David won the toss and Eymet went out to bat with high hopes on a splendid sunny day. However the wicket was not as settled as the early-season good weather and Simon and David had to play with some circumspection. Forty runs were added in the first ten overs. Drinks broke the spell and Simon holed out immediately. At this point Eymet's innings began to unravel against some tidy but unthreatening Bordeaux bowling. Simon, David and Nigel all made twenties before getting out to unwise strokes. The rest followed back to the shed with the exception of some stolid resistance from Smith and Son (Josh). We limped to 112 from 39.5 overs. Probably not enough by 40 or 50 runs.
With a small total to chase Bordeaux didn't have to take many risks. Paul, John, and Chris picked up a wicket each and Alan Coomb showed that he was a good winter signing. The total was soon reached with 15 overs to spare. Most of our bowling was tidy but , in the end , it was our batting which failed to capitalise and didn't give the bowlers a realistic chance.

Result: LOSS Eymet 112 (39.5), Bordeaux 113-3 (25 overs)

EYMET v. ST.AULAYE, 6 MAY

On a sunny but blustery day David won another toss and donned his pads. In the absence of Simon Palmer we were soon 7 for 1 off 5 overs. Nigel joined David and that was the story of the afternoon. Early-season conditions made timing difficult and we crawled cautiously to 40-odd off the first 15. However, our boys were determined after the Bordeaux drubbing the week before. The runs began to flow; even the odd boundary on a slow outfield. David and Nigel took us to 175 off 35 overs before David holed out for 81. Inevitably he was followed 1 run later by Nigel . The scorer then struggled to keep up as we lost a further 4 wickets for 4 runs ! Fortunately Harvey marshalled the tail to take us to 193 from our alloted 40 overs --- finally a competitive total for our bowlers to bowl at.
St.Aulaye's reply stumbled early on as keeper David snaffled their opener off Nigel. Mike Stratford then came on, bowling into a stiff breeze from the swimming pool end,and removed the St.Aulaye 'pro'. David's second bowling change brought on Alan Coomb from the other end. Rejuvenated by the prevailing wind the' Cumberland Cobra' was soon firing on all cylinders and making the ball hiss and spit. He fired out the middle order and we began to relax as St.Aulaye sank to 55 for 4 off almost 20 overs. With the tide on our side David proceeded to give free rein to several bowlers. Nine members of the team got a bowl (understandably David didn't bowl himself) and amazingly 8 got wickets. Selkirk's Brian Revell was the pick of the bunch with 2 for 19 but Josh also boasted 1 for nought to polish off the opposition. We really did play well and deserved a comprehensive win. A big partnership, tight bowling, astute captaincy and good fielding won the day for Eymet. The only blip was an embarrasing 49 extras including 32 wides !!....back to the gym !

RESULT: WIN
EYMET 193 (40 overs) D.Horlock 81, N.Jones 71 ST.AULAYE 121 all out (36 overs) A.Coomb 2-18, B.Revell 2-19

EYMET v BORDEAUX 3rd June
What a game of ' ifs '. If only we had had 11 men. If only our batsmen had capitalised on their good starts......
An increasingly confident Eymet saw their chance to leap-frog Bordeaux to the top of the Barclay's league table. Capn. Horlock, sensing the Girondins to be a team that likes chasing, invited them to bat. Pinsett and Smallwood started well and soon had 40 on the board. Enter Simon Palmer after a month's lay-off and a wicket with his first ball. Soon after the veteran Kiwi outwitted the other opener too. On a slow wicket with an even slower outfield (no boundaries in the first hour), Bordeaux proceeded watchfully through Durrans and Ferriera. They took the total to over 80 before Marcus Swift struck with the first of three wickets. At the other end the 'Cumbrian Cobra', Alan Coomb, completed a tight, piercing spell of 1 for 20 off his 8 overs. With a little wag of the tail Bordeaux hauled themselves to a respectable 174 all out.
In reply, we lost Simon quickly before David Horlock and Nigel Jones confidently re-built the innings. They added a brisk 60 before both fell to risky shots. At 80 for 3 the result was in the balance but Marcus refused to be cowed and took the attack to Bordeaux. Ably supported by Martin Smith (23), they put on nearly 60. We were almost there but both fell in quick succession. The tail did what it could. Overs remained but we were rapidly running out of wickets, and with three remaining the curtain fell with Eymet agonisingly 20 short of their target. So near yet so far. However, compared to the start of the season, Eymet showed that, given the right circumstances, we are capable of beating the league leaders.

RESULT: LOST BORDEAUX 174 all out (Durrans 46, Ferreira 46, Swift 3-41)
EYMET 154 all out ( Swift 35, Jones 35, Ferreira 3-41)

EYMET ‘v’ ANGOULEME 20 May 2007-07

Eymet’s League ambitions received a massive boost with a full 28 point win against Angouleme. Unfortunately this wasn’t due to a performance of skill and courage but confusion amongst Angouleme’s drivers, which led to only 3 players turning up, and the match being forfeited.
